The College of Business Administration (CBA) offers students courses across seven majors, including: a) Accounting, b) Business Information Systems, c) Finance, d) Global Management, e) Human Resources Management, f) Marketing, and g) Supply Chain Management. Not only does CBA provide great teachers through world-renowned faculty across the listed fields, there is also an emphasis on real-world experiences and opportunities through extracurricular programming. With the added benefit of Pittsburgh's urban environment, the classroom experiences extend into the community fabric through collaborations and projects with local agencies and clients.
The College of General Studies (CGS) has had more than 50 years of experience working with adult learners, transfer students, veterans, and others who want the personalized attention of a small academic community, and the competitive advantage that comes with having a degree from a world-renowned research university.
Most of the disciplines offered through CGS are professional areas, such as health services and legal studies, with a selection of general areas, such as natural sciences and social sciences.
With over 35 majors and disciplines offered at the undergraduate level, the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences (A&S) is the largest school at Pitt. Areas of study include majors within the fields of the arts, the humanities, foreign languages, and the social and natural sciences.
In addition to the variety of coursework offered through A&S, there are also a number of offices, centers and resources, including but not limited to the: a) Advising Center, b) Academic Resource Center, and c) Research, Scholarship, & Creative Activity.
The curriculum at the School of Computing and Information is focused on training students to understand and manage information and access through technology and other means. With over 100 years of history, the school has trained students to work in libraries and archives, companies and manufacturing industries, and governments and nonprofits. This school offers degrees in Computer Science, Information Science, Library and Information Science, and Telecommunications.
The University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering is one of the oldest engineering programs in the United States and is consistently ranked among the top 50 engineering programs nationally. The Swanson School has excelled in basic and applied research during the past decade and is on the forefront of 21st century technology including sustainability, energy systems, bioengineering, micro- and nanosystems, computational modeling, and advanced materials development. Approximately 120 faculty members serve more than 2,600 undergraduate and graduate students and Ph.D. candidates in six departments, including Bioengineering, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science.
