I have grown to be a better and more independent thinker

As a former exchange student at the University of Pittsburgh, I have many wonderful things to say about life in Pitt. From the get-go, I was welcomed with a tremendous sense of pride and honour for the school’s name and heritage. Throughout the semester, I was thoroughly convinced that this was no facade.

I took five classes at Pitt. Pitt’s professors and teaching assistants have greatly surpassed my expectations. Under their tutelage, I have grown to be a better and more independent thinker which has greatly shaped my perspective of the world around me. They inspired me every day and helped me realise my purpose of receiving a college education, and have affirmed my decision to major in history.

Bouquet Gardens was where I called ‘home’ in the past semester. It was where I came to know and love my very warm flatmates whom I miss so dearly now that I am back home in Singapore. A huge thank you to my dearest Bouquet family for being so integral in my student life in Pitt and for making me feel so loved and included.

Pitt is also a college with many opportunities for students (and even exchange students) to try out new activities outside academic work. I am thankful to have been able to sing in the Pitt Women’s Choral Ensemble. It was my honour being part of a harmonious family of talented young ladies under the conductorship of an esteemed and passionate conductress. I always looked forward to rehearsals where I could make music and de-stress.

My experience in Pitt has been nothing short of amazing and I would definitely recommend Pitt as a college to be whether you are on exchange or not. At the same time, I would be really thrilled if Pitt students could come to Singapore to learn more about a different culture. Thank you, Pitt!
